Ministries
Ephesians 4:12
“...to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”
At Allen Chapel AME Church, our ministries are designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, and practical needs of our members and community. From worship and outreach to youth, men’s, women’s, and senior ministries, each area serves as a pathway for fellowship, growth, and Kingdom impact.
African Heritage
The African Heritage Ministry celebrates the rich cultural traditions, history, and spiritual legacy of people of African descent. Through worship, education, and community events, we honor our ancestors while inspiring future generations to walk boldly in faith and purpose. The ministry seeks to uplift voices, preserve heritage, and connect our church family with the beauty and strength of African identity. All are welcome to learn, celebrate, and grow with us.
Bereavement
The Bereavement Ministry provides comfort, compassion, and spiritual support to individuals and families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. We walk alongside our members during their time of sorrow through prayer, care, and practical assistance. Whether through calls, cards, meals, or memorial support, we aim to be a steady presence of God’s love and peace. In every step, we remind the grieving that they are not alone—and that healing is possible through faith and community.
Board of Trustees
The Trustee Board is responsible for managing and maintaining the physical and financial assets of the church. Trustees oversee church property, facilities, and resources to ensure everything is cared for with excellence and used to support ministry and mission. With a heart for service and stewardship, they work behind the scenes to keep the church running smoothly and responsibly. This ministry is a vital part of honoring God through wise management, accountability, and dedication to the church’s future.
Burning Bush
The Burning Bush Ministry celebrates the wisdom, faith, and vibrant spirit of our seasoned members. We provide opportunities for fellowship, spiritual growth, and service through gatherings, outreach, and uplifting activities tailored for seniors. Just as the burning bush was not consumed, we believe our seniors continue to thrive with purpose and passion in every season of life. This ministry honors the legacy of our elders while empowering them to remain active, valued, and deeply connected to the life of the church.
Class Leader
Offering spiritual care, encouragement, and support to church members. Each class leader is assigned a group of members to pray with, check in on, and help nurture in their walk with Christ. Rooted in the historic traditions of Methodism, this ministry strengthens our church family by fostering connection, accountability, and discipleship. Through regular contact and genuine care, class leaders help ensure that no member walks alone.
Communication
The Communications Ministry ensures that church news, events, and messages are shared clearly, creatively, and effectively within the congregation and beyond. From worship announcements to digital outreach, we use print, social media, email, and video to keep our church family informed and engaged. Our goal is to communicate with excellence and purpose, reflecting the heart of the ministry in everything we share. Whether it’s behind the scenes or on the screen, we help tell the story of what God is doing at our church.
Intercessory Prayer
The Intercessory Prayer Ministry is dedicated to standing in the gap through consistent and fervent prayer for our church, community, and world. We believe in the power of prayer to heal, restore, and move mountains, just as the Word of God promises. This ministry meets regularly to lift up the needs of others, covering everything from personal requests to global concerns. This ministry is open to all who feel called to pray on behalf of others and seek God’s will with boldness and faith.
Rev. Karen L. Young Women’s Ministry
The Rev. Karen L. Young Women’s Ministry is a vibrant community where women of all ages come together to grow in faith, support one another, and serve with purpose. Through Bible studies, fellowship gatherings, workshops, and outreach, we empower women to live boldly and walk confidently in their God-given calling. We create a safe and welcoming space for spiritual growth, authentic connection, and personal transformation. Whether you’re seeking encouragement, friendship, or a deeper relationship with Christ, there’s a place for you in the Women’s Ministry.
Lay Organization
The Lay Organization Ministry equips and empowers lay members to grow spiritually, serve faithfully, and lead effectively within the church and the community. Rooted in the mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, we focus on education, leadership development, and service. Our goal is to strengthen the role of the laity in advancing the Kingdom of God through active participation and discipleship. Through workshops, outreach, and fellowship, we encourage every member to use their gifts for God’s glory and the good of others.
Men's
The Men’s Ministry is committed to developing men of faith who lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and grow in their relationship with God. Through Bible study, mentorship, fellowship, and outreach, we empower men to impact their families, church, and community. This ministry creates a space where men can be strengthened spiritually, supported emotionally, and encouraged to walk boldly in their calling. All men are welcome to join us as we grow together in faith, brotherhood, and service.
Music
The Music Ministry is made up of six wonderful choirs: Pastor’s Anniversary Choir, the Sons of Allen, the Senior Choir, the Women’s Choir, the Youth & Young Adult Choir, and the Gospel Choir. Together with their leadership, these choirs play a vital role in guiding the congregation into heartfelt worship through song, praise, and musical expression. From traditional hymns to contemporary gospel, our choirs, musicians, and vocalists faithfully use their gifts to glorify God and uplift His people.
Nettie Norris Women’s Missionary Society
The Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) is committed to serving others through love, faith, and action—locally, nationally, and globally. Rooted in the legacy of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the WMS empowers women to grow spiritually while engaging in meaningful outreach and missions. From supporting families in need to advocating for justice and wellness, we are hands and hearts in service to Christ. All women are welcome to join us as we put faith into action and make a lasting impact.
Outreach
The Outreach Ministry is the heart of our church’s commitment to serving the community with compassion and purpose. We strive to meet both spiritual and practical needs through food drives, clothing donations, community events, and acts of service. Our mission is to be the hands and feet of Christ, reaching beyond the walls of the church to share His love in action. Everyone is invited to join us as we make a difference—one person, one family, and one neighborhood at a time.
Production
The Productions Ministry supports worship and outreach by managing sound, video, livestreaming, and digital content for both in-person and online experiences. Our goal is to ensure that every message, song, and service element is seen, heard, and shared with clarity and excellence. Whether operating behind the scenes or managing real-time broadcasts, we help carry the Gospel beyond the church walls. This ministry welcomes those with a heart to serve and a passion for technology, creativity, and communication.
SHARE
The SHARE Ministry is dedicated to meeting the essential needs of our community by providing reduced groceries and meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Rooted in compassion and service, we believe that no one should go hungry and that sharing food is a powerful expression of God’s love. Our volunteers work faithfully to organize, package, and distribute food with dignity and care. Through this ministry, we aim to nourish both body and soul while spreading hope and kindness one meal at a time.
Steward Board
The Steward Board is a vital leadership ministry responsible for supporting the spiritual and financial health of the church. Stewards assist the pastor in serving the congregation, caring for members in need, and managing church finances with integrity and accountability. Grounded in faith and service, they help ensure that the resources of the church are used to advance God’s work and bless His people. This ministry reflects a deep commitment to stewardship, compassion, and faithful leadership in the life of the church.
Ushers
The Usher Ministry serves as a welcoming presence and helping hand for all who enter our sanctuary. Ushers greet members and guests with warmth, provide guidance during services, and help maintain a spirit of order and reverence in the house of the Lord. With smiling faces and servant hearts, they create a hospitable and sacred space for worship. This ministry is open to those who feel called to serve God and others through kindness, attentiveness, and grace.
YPD
A vital part of the Women’s Missionary Society is its commitment to nurturing and teaching our youth and young adults. In 1915, the AME Church established this important arm known as the Young People and Children’s Division (YPD). Through the YPD, young people are guided and developed in areas such as Worship, Leadership, Evangelism, Integrity, and Christian Social Relations. Beyond training, the Women’s Missionary Society seeks to inspire our youth to live out their faith, serve their communities, and grow into strong Christian leaders.
